CT

A computed tomography (CT) scan uses X-rays to make detailed pictues of structures inside of the body.  The body part being scanned is displayed as a series of slices which allow radiologists to view the body part in three dimensions.  First used widely in the 1970s, CT is now a common diagnostic test in most U.S. hospitals.  There have been recent innovations in CT that make it possible to see such detail as the blood vessels of the heart and evaluate to see if they are blocked.
